Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic sustains a 'devastating' injury to his knee.

Jokic secured the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in three of the past four years.

Triple National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 at the Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental coming together with team-mate Spencer Jones.

The other player stepped on the foot of the MVP, who promptly went down to the floor clutching his knee.

The veteran player, who tops the league season in rebounds and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to suffering the setback.

He is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the issue.

"Instantly, Jokic knew there was a problem," stated Denver head coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Any player that gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as talented as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, right now, I'm more worried just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of going through a situation of that nature."
