Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
