The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the expected passage for a tournament staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an England men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to welcome the Three Lions for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, if they top Group B, their round of 16 match would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Kickoff and Rally

The tournament was inaugurated at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the venue by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were raised with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Timeline

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help connect with a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals staged at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a competition for the supporters and a celebration of everything we cherish about the sport – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”

More than three million tickets, a record for a Euro tournament, are expected to be made available to fans.
