England Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
The bowler's last Test for the Kiwis was against the English side in the final month of 2024.
England's bowling consultant Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be during the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The former Kiwi seamer is only likely to be available for the opening match due to his participation in the ILT20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Speaking as England's squad for the first of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the present time.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Aussie side," he said.
"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is brilliant.
"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, prior to England head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
