The Gunners' boss feels assured that his squad can persist in handling with player absences following revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The Germany international has been absent since the summer due to knee surgery. Originally slated to come back at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when advancing his recovery and could not progress “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This development creates a dilemma for the midweek home game against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly after a fitness issue as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Further fitness issues involve centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on squad depth ahead of this season has placed the club in a much stronger position to handle such unavailability.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

In response if more options was helping their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Yes, since the current term has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he continued.

“We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at this level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Commenting on the setback highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration being outside.”
