Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
